Midlands Spotlight on Wildboy: Origins

midlandsmovies • July 29, 2026

An exciting new Midlands project is soon to be released in the form of Wildboy: Origins. This new film is a post-apocalyptic action-thriller and tells the story of a young family whose lives are turned upside down by three trophy hunters that have trespassed into their terrain.

The movie is helmed by Mandisi Sibanda, a Zimbabwean-born director, actor, producer and editor who makes films through his own studio Wolverhampton based Mansta Productions.

Mansta Productions have produced a wide range of media work and Mandisi started making music videos early in his career before breaking into the short film market. And the young director already has one feature film under his name in 2022 called Another Day (IMDB link).

Mandisi Sibanda goes on to explain, “This film was many years in the making. It took a small team of my closest industry friends to bring this project to life. Along with the actors, we were able to work together to portray a captivating and action filled story.”

“It’s a film 3 years in the making. And it was built on passion and creativity from some of the industries most talented young creators”, he adds.

The director has also pulled a host of Midlands talent to join his team during the making of the film. The assistant director, and executive producer, is Taran Bains who we have covered in the past with his own film Broken Vases.

Rounding out the technical team are Travis Jackson (camera), Josh Fox and Tanya Allen (sound), Ilana Taylor (make-up) and Yinte as the film’s composer.

Joining the behind-the-camera crew are a host of up-and-coming acting talent including Ian Atwins, Zach Devereux, Harleen Sahota, Jonah Mayor, Ryan Radley and Nicholas Sparrow.

The Robin Hood legend has more than its fair share of adaptations and it’s definitely been a bit of of a Robin Hood year for me with a rewatch of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), a visit to Sherwood Forest to watch Prince of Thieves (1991) and now this new incarnation heading to cinemas

Having seen thousands of short films in my time doing Midlands Movies, I am still surprised how ingenious and inventive local filmmakers are even when resources are often limited for these often low (or no) budget productions
