Midlands filmmakers launch new sci-fi horror

Genesis is an upcoming sci-fi horror from Midlands filmmakers Lunar Gold Productions and billed as a blend of Alien meets Stranger Things.

The production team's latest short film follows on from the company's 2025 installment 'Deadstock' which won Best Thriller at both the Calgary and United Artist International Film Festivals. This was alongside a successful screening at the Stratford-On-Avon Film Festival in the Warwickshire.

The story of Genesis centres around Junior Medical Officer Savannah Thompson who sees a routine patient appointment as an opportunity to rekindle with an old flame from her dark past.

Lunar Gold Productions are a Birmingham based filmmaking company founded by Taran Erhart-Bains. The company are "dedicated to creating original, high quality audio visual content in the areas of promotional video, motion graphics and short film."

The film's director Taran Erhart-Bains and the producer Mandisi Sibanda have already begun sharing further details of the film's pre-production and influences in a series of campaign videos on Lunar Gold's YouTube channel. (See the latest one above).

The team are also currently preparing to shoot an introductory piece which will help establish the world the characters will enter. They hope this will provide a defined backstory and also set the tone for this sci-fi horror to build anticipation ahead of the main release later in the year.

Taran Erhart-Bains is a British filmmaker of Austrian-Indian heritage with the mission of creating a body of work including short films, screenplays and eventually feature films.

"The craft of filmmaking is an art form I have a great passion for and began as an appreciation for the moving image during my studies at the University of Wolverhampton. With a particular focus on narrative film, these creative concepts grew into practical goals and Lunar Gold was formed", says the filmmaker on their website.

Taran adds, "I made a short film called Broken Vases", (Midlands Movies Spotlight here), "which was officially selected at the Wolverhampton Film Festival in 2023 and covered BTS for Midlands Fashion Designer Jheez at London Fashion Week and a Documentary Premiere at The Midlands Art Centre".

This production company aims to bring together aspiring and established creatives to produce alternative and engaging work.
