Leicester film The Fort gets local premiere

After a successful cast and crew screening in Christmas 2021, filmmaker Doug Cubin is releasing his anti-war film The Fort to the public at a local event in Leicester.

Taking place on Sunday 12th March 2023 at 6.00pm at Phoenix Leicester, The Fort is a locally produced independent feature film written and directed by Douglas Cubin.

It tells the story of four German soldiers in late 1944 who take refuge for one night in a Napoleonic fort. But there is no rest from war.

The black and white film is an examination of the mental anguish on Corporal Kohl (played by Andrew Joshi from The Larkins, Giri/Haji and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life). He is haunted by the memories of the family he abandoned, memories which have now been deformed into nightmares by The Fort.

On the night, the screening will be introduced by the director and is Doug’s first feature film after successfully taking his short film Finding Richard starring Colin Baker to Cannes - where it was selected for the Short Film Corner.

This event is also part of a new strand of Phoenix Leicester’s programme called First Look, which is dedicated to giving local filmmakers the chance to get their feature films up on the big screen.

And it isn’t the last you’ll hear from Doug as he is already producing another local filmmaker’s project in the near future. Rhys Davies’ next feature Acid Daemons is due for completion in 2023, whilst Doug is already underway on his own new projects including a comedy short and a horror set in Victorian times.

So after all this time, The Fort is finally on the big screen & tickets can be purchased here: https://www.phoenix.org.uk/whats-on/programme/the-fort

“These go up to 11”. WHo would have thought that from a humble 1984 mock/rock-umentary - itself spun off from a 1978 sketch show - this quote from a dumb guitarist has now become part of our global lexicon and beloved by millions.
