Kino Koło Notts bringing Eastern European cinema to East Midlands screens

Kino Koło Notts is a new community cinema working in the Nottinghamshire area to bring Eastern European cinema to East Midlands screens.

With just a few days to go, Kino Koło Notts will launch in Mansfield this September 2023 as they prepare their exciting new Midlands project - which aims to provide affordable cinema screenings in foreign languages and support cultural exchange and appreciation.

To begin their season, Kino Koło Notts will first be screening Polish classic comedy The Cruise which takes place this Friday 22 September at St John’s Centre in Mansfield. The screening will be in Polish language with English subtitles.

Regarded as Polish cinema’s first cult film, Piwowski’s The Cruise is also considered by many to be a satirical masterpiece. The movie is shot in a quasi-documentary style with a cast featuring mostly non-professional actors.

And the absurd plot parodies life in the (then) People's Republic of Poland, reducing a weekend river cruise to a hilarious parody of the entire Communist system.

Liam Skillen from Kino Koło Notts says, “The support we have had from local businesses and people in promoting our first event has been amazing. I’m really excited for our first screening, and I hope the whole town will join us in sharing culture through film.”

Ellie from Cinema For All said, "We are delighted to be working with Kino Koło Notts - their passion, determination and ideas have been buzzing around for the last few months and it is great to see it result in this first screening.”

“By bringing Polish film to the big screen they are not only providing a platform for more diverse cinema, but also an opportunity for audiences to meet and connect with each other,” she continues.
