Midlands Spotlight - Aura

New Lincolnshire film Aura has launched a crowd-funding campaign and we find out about this exciting new Midlands project as it begins production.

Directed by Guy Hodgkinson, Aura tells the coming-of-age story of three young people looking to realise their value.

Fresh out of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Charlie Oscar plays Aura. Aura, along with friend Chance, both pick up money by escorting as they apply to University. And Freddie is an eager young teenager home alone for the first time and dead set on becoming a ‘man’.

An on one starry night in the Lincolnshire countryside, these three young people who are looking for answers in their life meet head-on as they try and balance their difficult choices.

Writer-director Guy Hodgkinson also trained as an actor at Royal Scottish where he was awarded a Laurence Olivier Bursary Award for his graduating year. Prior to Drama School he was part of The Soho Young Company and The National Youth Theatre and Aura will be Guy's film directing debut.

The production are keen to promote the individuality of the short format in film. “Short filmmaking is a brilliant and exciting form where risks can be taken, it's a playground where bold choices can be explored. That artistic playfulness and freedom come with obvious challenges”.

They add, “There's never been a more challenging time to make independent work for so many reasons. But artists have a wonderful knack for overcoming difficulties and finding creative solutions”

The film is being made underneath the Broxholme Brother Films banner whose goal is to make “defiant films. Defiantly different films. Defiantly strange films. Genre defiant films”.

And hailing from the flatlands of Lincolnshire, BBF are an exciting small-scale rural team as they didn’t grow up in the city with just 58 people live in their hometown of Broxholme. And their website promotes how they “champion the untold stories and emerging talent from the Midlands”. Amen to that.

The film is currently in the middle of a crowd-funding campaign via Kickstarter and if you would like to get involved click below to hear more about the story, production team, cast and the future plans of the project. And of course to donate where you can.
