The Correction Unit is a new science-fiction thriller that is set in a near-future Britain where artificial intelligence, state control, and youth incarceration collide.

And the filmmakers will be premiering their production on Tuesday 23rd September 2025 at Nottingham's independent Broadway Cinema.

The film promises to offer “a chilling exploration of justice and resistance in an age of automation”. Set inside an AI-run rehabilitation facility, it follows a group of young people forced into a brutal correctional system. But when one teen dares to question the institution's motives, a rebellion begins to form, which raises urgent questions about control, empathy and human rights.

"It asks hard questions about the future we're building," says writer/director Derry Shillitto. "It's not just about punishment and control - it's about what happens to the most vulnerable in society when the most powerful embrace AI. It's a dystopian tale set in Nottingham, but the themes are global."

The cast includes Ziad Abaza (Spectre), Jonny Phillips (Titanic), Kirsty Smedley (The Devil Outside) and a breakout ensemble of local talent, including Sonny Middleton and Elleese Bradshaw as leads Shawn and Tish.

Newcomers Zak Hopkinson and Sonny Lake - known in the Midlands music scene as Slendz - deliver supporting turns, shaped by personal experiences echoing the film's themes.

Award-winning actor and Nottingham native Bella Ramsey voices the facility's calculating AI, nTrac - a role that hopes to adds psychological depth to the film.

An alumni of Nottingham's Television Workshop, Ramsey's involvement highlights the city's creative talent and brings global attention to the project, as well as giving The Last of Us star an opportunity to provide support and guidance to some of the film's younger actors.

The director adds, “We're so delighted and proud they chose to support a grassroots Nottingham production, and give some of the city's brightest young acting talents the opportunity to appear in a film alongside, as well as receive priceless advice from, one of the best acting talents Nottingham has produced."

Shot on location in Nottingham, The Correction Unit is a fully homegrown production and has been picked up for worldwide distribution by Vision Films.

“These go up to 11”. Who would have thought that from a humble 1984 mock/rock-umentary - itself spun off from a 1978 sketch show - a quote from a dumb guitarist has now become part of our global lexicon and beloved by millions.
