A Bergman-inspired Short Film Launches Crowdfunding Campaign

A haunting new short film, The Last Visit, is now crowdfunding on Indiegogo with a project that hopes to channel the challenging films of Ingmar Bergman (The Seventh Seal, Winter Light).

The filmmaker's other influences include Robert Bresson and Carl Theodor Dreyer in their plans to create a folk horror utilising the region's rural andscapes to explore "the shadow of mortality to give the film an unsettling edge".

Set in the rural Derbyshire countryside and within the converted walls of a former pub, The Last Visit is a 20–25 minute short that follows a mysterious black-clad stranger played by Ray Raymond who visits an old man (Nigel Barber) in his flat.

Over the course of a single evening, the two men share stories of faith, memory, and the meaning of endings. But as silence deepens and the clock ticks on, a final revelation blurs the line between visitor and host, life and death.

A Film About Silence, Memory, and Mortality

Drawing inspiration from Bergman’s The Seventh Seal and Winter Light, as well as the spiritual minimalism of Bresson and Dreyer, The Last Visit places two characters in an intimate setting, confronting existential questions against the stark beauty of the English landscape.

The filmmakers state that, “This is not a film of spectacle, but of silence and weight,” says the filmmaker. “We want to create a space where audiences pause, reflect, and face the questions that so often go unspoken: What is life? What is death? And what remains when silence falls?”

Why Crowdfunding Matters

The production is raising funds via Indiegogo to cover:

  • Actors’ Expenses – travel, accommodation, and performance fees
  • Production Costs – location, props, and minimal equipment
  • Post-Production – editing, sound, and finishing
  • Festival Submissions – so the film can reach audiences worldwide

And supporters can claim various rewards including digital access to the finished film, behind-the-scenes material, and on-screen credits.

About the Filmmakers

The team behind The Last Visit are independent filmmakers with a background in documentary, folk horror, and experimental storytelling. Their previous projects have explored folklore, memory, and psychological themes, with work shown at independent film festivals.

With The Last Visit, they aim to bring the spirit of European arthouse cinema into an English rural context, creating a deeply contemplative and unsettling meditation on mortality.
