Midlands Spotlight on A Touch of Vengeance

21-year-old filmmaker Jordan-Kane Lewis has completed his new film A Touch of Vengeance with the help of a cast and crew from the Midlands despite the difficulties faced in 2020.

From Dronfield, the filmmaker directed his low-budget debut feature film at the beginning of the year over a 23-day shoot. Filming during a cold January, the final production was made during Jordan-Kane’s final semester at university and shot in multiple locations including Dronfield, Chesterfield and the Peak District.

And the film utilised many people from the local community as well as acting groups, Chesterfield College, UCR, Da Hood Boxing Gym and St. John’s Ambulance.

The 32 people cast consist of Derbyshire born actors such as Martin Nadin, Paul Jonah whilst Leona Clarke is from Oxfordshire and an original score was created by Dronfield musician Jacob Cook.

Co-written with Lucy Ingram and with local rock bands used on the soundtrack, the director says the film tells the story about "an easy job that takes a turn for the worse and a cleaner's life becoming more complicated leading to a path paved by blood”.

Jordan undertook a short promotional run when filming to try and draw some attention to the project being featured on local shows.

Inspired by films like Shane Meadows, “Dead Man's Shoes (2004)”, Wong-Kar Wai “Fallen Angels (1995)” and Park Chan-wook. “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002)”, the 70-minute film is a non-linear as it jumps backwards and forwards through time while following 3 characters.


Lucas is played by Paul Jonah, a low-level gang member who deals with clean up jobs as well as acting as an enforcer. Maria is played by Leona Clarke, a normal girl who was involved in a random attack that changes her life. And finally Marcus played by Martin Nadin, the gang leader’s son who is the catalyst to the whole film.


And the director explains that the film “follows Maria's change from a normal person, to a cold-blooded killer whose sole drive is vengeance”.


Set to be released next year, the film is nearly ready for film festivals with the intent of being submitted at the start of 2021 so keep your eyes peeled
