Midlands Movies Mike takes a look at 2 events that are being combined for the first time in Leicester between 7th-13th November...
The DocFilm festival has grown in size over the last 2 years. In January 2011 the 1 day festival took place at the Phoenix Square Film & Digital Media Centre. Earlier this year it grew into a 3 day (Fri, Sat & Sun) festival with 16 Dogwoof Pop Up Cinema documentaries screened and over 50 docfilm submissions from across the UK.
Later this year the festival will run over 7 days and sit alongside the 5th Community Media Week organised by the Citizens Eye Community News Agency in partnership with Newsnet.
Details so far include the participation of 22 venues spread across the City Centre including Phoenix Square, Central Library, Adult Education, Blacks, Costa Coffee, Victim Support, Leicester Tourist Information Centre and more.
The Crumblin Cookie on High Street will be 'DocFilm HQ' during the festival with social gatherings planned every evening and the 'Reportage Club' returns on the Saturday (10th) across all 3 floors of the venue including their new basement space, the 'Cookie Jar'.
With support from Somewhereto_, the Media Trust (Newsnet & Community Channel), Action Homeless and DeafKidz International the week long 'community media' celebration will enable many people to engage in community media activities alongside documentary films in accessible locations.
